Chapters 1 and 2 are read! on 14 more in 1 book, and 2 other books to go.
I'm currently on Chapter 3 of an Archaeology textbook.
Let me tell you. Chapter 1 was the WORST. CHAPTER. EVER!!!! I mean, I'm slurping down coffee to get through all this stuff in a timely manner, which has not gone my way so far. I digress. As I was saying, chapter 1 is essentially a bunch of names and dates. Names and dates. Names and flippin' dates. There's this dude named Lewis Binford who keeps popping up everywhere, so I'm thinking I should be able to cite his name at any given moment. Basically, he was the dude (probably along with a whole bunch of other people), who said, "Fuck this outdated supercilious bullshit, and this loathingly boring chronology shit! Let's go all Bill-Nye and science this joint up, yo!" Okay... Bill Nye was probably just being conceived when all this took place, but you get the point. Mr. Lewis Binford and all his buddies, or maybe it was a one-man-show, decided that archaeology could be fact-checked, hypothesized, and tested. It's now called Processual Archaeology, but too many references to it as New Archaeology is out there to ignore the original title.
Lewis Binford - New Archaeology - mid 1900s, - scientific approach - now Processual Archaeology
After that fun crosswords chapter of names-I'll-never-remember, I was reluctant to move on to chapter 2. As I mentioned before, however, I am on chapter 3, so 2 wasn't bad at all. It discusses general, archaeology terminology and the preservation of shit in natural resources, which is pretty neat. It mentions both Experimental and Underwater Archaeology which is awesome. You see, before all this pandemic mess ruled over world-wide activities, I was frequently checking on that archaeological site you can see what digs are available for volunteers (with little to no experience). There are some places in Ireland that have experimental archaeology. OOOOOoohhhh it looked so cool. And underwater archaeology is everywhere. I've done a dive before. I wouldn't mind getting my diving certification to do it for archaeology. That'd be wicked.
WHAT?? I just checked. There are still opportunities. Man, the unfortunate irony of living in USA. Speaking of, North America and Europe are apparently the WORST places for things to be preserved, as far as dry conditions go, because of changing seasons or something like that. Oxygen is great at destroying shit, which is hilarious because... we would be destroyed without it. Oh, and dogs will still eat mammoths that fell into deep-freezers a gazillion years ago in Siberia. Woah. To avoid predators for all that time just be gobbled up by a house pet. Bummer.
How I'm supposed to finish this book... plus 2 more... before the interview... I just looked it up. August 19-20th from 10am. They're 7 hours ahead of me. So that's really August 19-20th from 3am. Which means I have 16 days. Not even 2 and a half weeks.
Should I just drop out now? I should just withdraw, right? In looking for the application interview times, I did find the withdraw button, which was what I was looking for when I sent the email asking if my documents would still suffice in a year or two.
Two and a half weeks. Fuck, dude.
